Roseville, CA – Eric Schmidt and Golden State Racing picked up two wins as part of a
twin-50’s program at All American Speedway on Saturday night.
Schmidt’s wins extended his points lead in the NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series sanctioned Western Late Model division at the
newly remodeled quarter-mile asphalt oval track.
The wins marked a solid comeback from a fourth place finish in the
most recent Western Late Model event.
Schmidt set a blistering 13.791 lap in qualifying to lead time
trials by more than a quarter-second. His lap came on a “green”
track, since a fair-time enduro the week prior had washed the racing
groove off.
“We just got ahead of the curve,” Schmidt said. “The track was
definitely different. I think next race it will go back to normal.”
Schmidt clawed forward from his sixth starting spot in race number
one to take the lead on lap 11 from Gary Glenn.
“It went pretty smooth,” Schmidt said. “We just picked our way
through the field while also trying to conserve tires for the second
race. We had a pretty dominate car.”
A new invert of three had Schimdt starting in third in race number
two. Cooler temperatures helped to fend off a slight loose condition
on the Golden State Racing entry.
Schmidt took the lead in a hurry, taking it from Shannon Mansch on
lap four, and pulling away from Paul Harraka to take the win.
“Once you’re in the lead you want it to stay green and hope nothing
breaks.”
Nothing broke and the race stayed green, allowing Schmidt to earn
his seventh win of the year.
The Western Late Models have a week off before getting back in
action for a 50 lap event on July 14th.
