Roseville, CA – Golden State
Racing and driver Eric Schmidt will be looking for an unprecedented
sixth straight win at All American Speedway in Roseville, CA on
Saturday night.
The NASCAR Whelen-sanctioned Western Late Model class has been
dominated by the AT&T sponsored Chevrolets out of the Frank
Jordan-owned stable.
“I don’t think I’ve ever done this in my career,” Schmidt said. “It
gets tougher every week because all of our competitors are getting
better.”
All American Speedway’s Western Late Models had last weekend off,
and are now embarking on three straight weeks of competition,
including the important 100 lap event on June 23rd during
the Placer County Fair.
Schmidt plans to stay focused on the Western Late Model track
championship and the team has put its NASCAR Grand National
aspirations on hold as they pursue the title.
“We are focused and going for it,” Schmidt said.
Schmidt’s win on June 2nd was one he described as a
methodical race.
“We started eighth, I went to the outside and started to fall back,”
Schmidt said. “The move to the front was back and forth.”
Schmidt ended up taking the lead on lap 34 and he held the spot the
rest of the 75 lap distance.
“The track has changed,” Schmidt said. “I told (Crew Chief) Eric
Snyder that the car was tight in the center and loose off. The track
has lost some grip.”
The Roseville driver has over 25 career wins at the newly remodeled
track, and is in his first full season at the facility in more than
10 years.
“The track is
cool,” Schmidt said. “It has a hint of the old Roseville but is a
whole new place. It’s great to see something positive and it’s neat
to be a part of it.”
Racing action gets underway at 5:30 p.m. on
Saturday night at All American Speedway.
