Roseville, CA – Eric Schmidt
and Golden State Racing picked up its first two wins of the season
in the Western Late Model division at All American Speedway in
Roseville, CA on Saturday night.
Schmidt, the 2006 SRL champion, qualified in the third position out
of 18 cars for the Berco Redwood twin 50’s program on the
NASCAR-sanctioned 1/3rd mile asphalt oval.
The wins
earned Schmidt crucial points in his run towards the NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series California State title.
“Getting out
front in the first race helped us save our tires for the second
race,” Schmidt said.
Schmidt made
quick work of the higher invert in the second feature, taking the
lead 15 laps into the event and never looking back.
The wins also
mark Schmidt’s first since the 2005 season at the track where he got
his start.
“Honestly it
doesn’t even feel a lot like the old Roseville,” Schmidt said. “But
it was great to win again.”
The Golden
State Racing team hopes its time spent in the SRL series will help
them in the Western Late Model class.
“We are
treating it the same with our preparation and maintenance programs,”
Schmidt said. “We’re still working to get better. If we falter,
they’ll catch us.”
Next Saturday
night will be the Folsom Ready Mix 50. Gates open at 3 p.m. with
racing at 6 p.m.
