SCHMIDT AND GOLDEN STATE RACING SWEEP TWIN 44S
AT ROSEVILLE
ROSEVILLE, CALIFORNIA. (April 26, 2010) – Veteran Eric Schmidt won both 44 lap features Saturday night at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. driving the Golden State Racing / Legacy Pools Chevrolet before a large crowd at the one-third mile asphalt oval.
Schmidt came into the event on the heels of a win in the Spring Classic 100 at Stockton 99 in mid-March. The 2007 All American Speedway and 2006 SRL SPEARS Southwest Tour champion faced one of the toughest fields seen at All American Speedway since the track was remodeled in the offseason before 2006.
“The car was pretty good,” Schmidt said. “It is tough because when you are running these twin races you have to leave something for the second race.”
After qualifying second quick behind 2009 track champion Jason Romero, he started the first feature seventh out of 17 entries.
Schmidt navigated the field quickly and took the lead from Ron Chunn on lap 12. He lapped many cars throughout the race and held off track points leader Michael Self to win the feature.
He spun an invert of six for the second 44 and that race proved to be the race of the year. Coming from sixth, Schmidt engaged the top-three by lap 10. An extremely exciting two-by-two battle between the top-four cars went on for ten straight laps, with Schmidt biding his time.
The pack broke up on lap 21 when Michael Self crashed into the turn one wall, and on lap 31 Schmidt roared into second past Matt Scott.
Heading to the finish, Schmidt ran right on the bumper of Bobby Grewohl. Schmidt and Grewohl had one of the best battles in speedway history in October 2008 with Grewohl getting the best of that duel. This time around, Schmidt made the decisive race-winning pass on lap 41 to sweep the features on the evening.
The next event for Golden State Racing is to be announced. Sponsorship opportunities are available with multi-time champion Eric Schmidt behind the wheel.
