2007 All American Speedway champions
Eric Schmidt and Golden State Racing continued their
outstanding season by making history again at the
Win-River 125 at Shasta Raceway Park in Anderson, CA
on Sunday afternoon.
Schmidt guided his Frank Jordan-owned AT&T Chevrolet
to his third career Win-River crown, becoming the
first three-time winner in the 28 year history of the
event.
Golden State Racing already held the distinction as
the only team to win the prestigious $14,000 NAPA
Challenge in 2002. Schmidt won the $10,000 bonus by
winning the event after starting at the rear.
After qualifying eighth out of 28 Super Late Models on
Saturday, the 2006 SRL championship team made an
adjustment to the car. Crew chief Eric Snyder changed
all four springs in an effort to help the car handle
the 3/8th's mile asphalt oval better.
The change worked in Sunday's feature. Schmidt
rocketed from the outside pole to the lead on the
opening lap. The lead was never relinquished, as
Schmidt held off Ryan Foster for the flag-to-flag
$4000 win.
"We threw some shocks and springs at it and we finally
hit on something that worked," Schmidt said. "I've got
a great team.
"Now on the agenda is a return back to Western Late
Model racing this weekend at Altamont Motorsports
Park.
Golden State Racing will compete in the Norcal
Nationals, a three-day event running Friday through
Saturday at the half-mile asphalt oval in Tracy, CA.
The 125 lap feature on Sunday is $4000 to win.
Schmidt earned a runner-up finish at Altamont in
weekly competition back in May, and won several
Westcar Series events there in 2006.
Practice will be conducted on Friday, with qualifying
on Saturday and feature racing on Sunday.
